This Year- Coke Studio. Lovin’ it.

You eagerly wait for something and then it finally arrives. Full-on excitement because you do not know what’s there in it this time. Everything new and lots to explore. I was waiting for Coke Studio season four since last year when the season three got over. I have earlier shared several of my favorite Coke Studio songs. I just love everything it provides, the great depths of music, poetry, culture, languages. Let’s see what it holds for us this year. Episode 2 will be aired today.

Here is the link for the pool of soulful music: Season Four

Also, there is something else I was hoping or rather wishing for. An India chapter of Coke Studio. Continue reading

My Mom Loves Birds, Esp. Sparrows!

We ,if we are lucky enough to have an open mind, interact with nature. Flowers, birds, or other natural wonders around us. My mom has these special friends which come over in the evening almost at the same time. These sparrows stay in the balcony near the flowers (My mom’s gardening) and search for food. They chirp until my Mom opens Continue reading

What’s Everyone Talking About? Cricket Obviously.

Cricket, that’s what is in everybody’s mind (most of them, if not all). After all it is India vs Pakistan!! It is the semi-final match which is tomorrow (30.03.2011) at Mohali PCA Stadium, Punjab. A dream match for both the nations. It’s in my mind too. Everyday there is headline in the NEWS related to this match. Also, lot many are coming from local sources too. Here are some of the few-

1. The Prime Ministers of the both nations will be coming to watch it. Wah, that’s the spirit.

2. Around, 1500 policemen in and around the Taj Hotel, Chandigarh where both the teams are staying. Too many right?

3. Somebody told me that it’s National holiday in Pakistan on the match-Day.

4. One headline says- India vs Pak – Adrenaline vs Testesterone.

5. Employees are deciding what excuses to make to their boss so that they can watch it LIVE. Well, I’m just not going after the lunch. No excuses. It’s of course the match! :D

6. Almost every third FB status is about this match. Didn’t check the Twitter though.

7. And also my today’s post is about it too.

8. Special non-stop train to Chandigarh for the match. Extra flights too!

9. Not sure but is it true- Bharat Bandh? ;)

Now, this is truly Cricket Mania. And it’s more because it’s against Pakistan. Everyone is dreaming that their nation’s team should go to the final. And so am I. India, go and grab the Cup! Yeah I am already into the final!

:D

Aik Alif – One God

This was the first Coke Studio video I listened to (back in 2009) and fell in love with it instantly. I was so mesmerized and impressed by the team and of course Noori and Saieen Zahoor. Music coming alive in such a brilliant way. It really touches my soul and heart. Hats off to them.

Great lyrics. Really great. Aik Alif – just a wonderful truth of all the times.

Lyrics (originally in Punjabi translated to English):

Parh parh ilm te faazil hoya
(You read to become all knowledgable)

Te kaday apnay aap nu parhya ee na
(But you never read yourself)

Bhaj bhaj warna ay mandir maseeti
(You run to enter your mosques and temples)

Te kaday mann apnay wich warya ee na
(But you never entered your own heart)

Larna ay roz shaitaan de naal
(Everyday you fight Satan)

Te kadi nafs apnay naal larya ee na
(But you never fight your own Ego)

Bulleh Shah asmaani ud-deya pharonda ay
(Bulleh Shah you try grabbing that which is in the sky)

Te jera ghar betha unoon pharya ee na
(But you never get hold of what sits inside yourself)

Bas kareen o yaar
(Stop it all my friend)

Ilm-oun bas kareen o yaar
(stop seeking all this knowledge my friend)

Ik Alif teray darkaar
(Only an Alif is what you need)

Bas kareen o yaar
(stop it all my friend)

Ilm-oun bas kareen o yaar…
(Stop seeking all this knowledge my friend)

Allah Sayyaan Allah Sayyaan
(God is Greatness, God is All)

Nee main jaanaa Jogi de naal
(I shall follow the Jogi {ascetic/Sufi})

Jo naa jaane, Haqq ki taaqat
(those who deny the strength of Truth)

Rab naa devey us ko Himmat
(God does not give them courage)

Hum Mann ke darya mein doobey
(We have drowned in the river of Self)

Kaisi nayya? Kya manjhdhaar…
(the boat and the flowing waters do not matter)

Bas kareen o yaar
(stop it all my friend)

Ilm-oun bas kareen o yaar
(stop seeking all this knowledge my friend)

Allah Sayyaan Allah Sayyaan
(God is Greatness, God is All)

Books I’m reading These Days

Here goes the list:

1. The Zahir by Paulo Coelho [I own it]
2. Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert [From the CEERI library]
3. The Future of Life by Edward O. Wilson [From the CEERI library; I have read it till page 104, will resume it after I finish with “Eat Pray Love”]

I wish I could put my Shelfari book shelf on my blog, but WordPress does not provide that to those blogs who have their blog domain on WordPress, like my blog. :( I hope that happens soon.

The One Who Changed the Face of Physics

Of course I’m talking about the great Albert Einstein.

Somehow, I never forget his birthday, i.e, 14th March. One of the reasons might be that the date happens to be just four days after my birthday. :D

I dedicated a post to him last year and I would do it today as well. It makes me happy!

This year I would like to add an excerpt from his book “The World as I See It”-

Everything that the human race has done and thought is concerned with the satisfaction of felt needs and the assuagement of pain. One has to keep this constantly in mind if one wishes to understand spiritual movements and their development. Feeling and desire are the motive forces behind all human endeavour and human creation, in however exalted a guise the latter may present itself to us. Now what are the feelings and needs that have led men to religious thought and belief in the widest sense of the words? A little consideration will suffice to show us that the most varying emotions preside over the birth of religious thought and experience. With primitive man it is above all fear that evokes religious notions–fear of hunger, wild beasts, sickness, death. Since at this stage of existence understanding of causal connexions is usually poorly developed, the human mind creates for itself more or less analogous beings on whose wills and actions these fearful happenings depend. One’s object now is to secure the favour of these beings by carrying out actions and offering sacrifices which, according to the tradition handed down from generation to generation, propitiate them or make them well disposed towards a mortal. I am speaking now of the religion of fear. This, though not created, is in an important degree stabilized by the formation of a special priestly caste which sets up as a mediator between the people and the beings they fear, and erects an hegemony on this basis. In many cases the leader or ruler whose position depends on other factors, or a privileged class, combines priestly functions with its secular authority in order to make the latter more secure; or the political rulers and the priestly caste make common cause in their own interests…

Have a nice time everybody. :)

God Bless this world.

Flowers Again… They are so Irresistible.

Peaceful

Fallen flowers make a beautiful natural carpet under the tree.

After the rain...

I clicked these photographs around a year back, mostly on my way to the class from the University hostel. My favorite pastime- Nature. And flowers, Nature’s most beautiful and fascinating miracle!

P.S. Never got late for the lecture though. ;)

Cricket Craziness

I was going through news [Google], and read about the upcoming match between India and England. The article had this picture which caught my attention. Awesome capture. They both seem to be crazy Cricket fans, surely more me. Rest the picture says it all. But it surely doesn’t say anything about the match scenario.

The match is scheduled to be played on 27th February. The chances are more that I might get to watch it LIVE, since I would be at home by then. Looking forward to it. It’s been a long time I have actually watched a match on TV. Looking forward to it… :D

I’m not crazy about cricket but if I happen to know that there is a match going on, I certainly follow the score and keep myself updated on it, and I surely shout and cheer at the end if India wins. And why shouldn’t I? :D

World Cup Season is On! [And hope India wins the cup!] ;)
